Hello M1 Macbook Pro

Despite life extending measures on my current Macbook Pro 2012, it really starts to show its age. A general disregard for software performance optimization by Apple and several Intel CPU vulnerability related fixes (Meltdown and Spectre) that resulted in significant performance drops reduce the use cases of the machine to surfing, streaming and light web development. In 2018 It was declared vintage by Apple and will only receive the occasional security update.

Year over year Apple made it easy to resist their new models with their limited ports, shitty keyboards and touchbars. But the new M1 Macbook Pro lives up to the name with its connectivity, performance and battery life. Notch be damned, I had to order one. The forecasted waiting period was cut short by a whole month and today I was able to unpack a freezing cold, thick slab of aluminium.
