Seville Day One
22 Sep 2023

I got up early and checked out of the hotel. My next stop would be Seville and the train ride was extremely impressive. The train would go up almost to Madrid and then back down to Seville in a matter of hours. Overall the Spanish trains were the most impressive on this journey. Always on or even ahead of time and extremely well organised. The experience at the train stations is almost airport-like (including x-rays for the luggage).

After only 5 hours on the train I was in Seville. I walked to my stay, the lovely “Hotel Sevilla Catedral”, and gave some of my clothes a wash - I was about to run out of shirts and underwear.

Not sure what to write, so much to love about this city. I feasted my eyes on the pleasant architecture, the huge variety of balconies (“Mirador”) and whenever I could I would peek into the courtyards hiding behind the beautiful facades.

Through a lot of luck I managed to get tickets to the Alcázar of Seville. The mixture of Arabic and European styles, the attention to detail and the variety of materials blew my mind.

The Alcázar also had a beautiful garden with all kinds of birds. I would have loved to spend more time there, but sun was setting and my stomach was growling.

I walked a bit more and looked for a place to eat. The colours of the sky, warm air… what a day. 17.388 steps and 12,15km - not bad for only half a day of walking.
