Bay Area 1: Palo Alto

Day 1

Arrival in San Francisco and travel to Palo Alto. My original plan was there by train, but I could not find the train station. I caved and downloaded Uber — my first ride with them ever. I had a room in Hotel Keen which was quite nice and in the heart of Palo Alto. After checkin I went to the closest T-Mobile shop and bought a pre-paid SIM card with a data plan. My first sightseeing destination was Stanford University.

Exploring the university grounds. The area was huge and I walked a lot on top of the already long journey. I had a nice dinner and called it a day. I clocked 23.047 steps and 16,66km.

Day 2

I explored Palo Alto some more and then made my way to San Jose.

Visting the HP garage. According to the sign the birthplace of Silicon Valley. Walking through the streets of Palo Alto I couldn’t help but notice that I’ve never seen so many Teslas in my life 😅

I visited the Facebook campus. The Facebook sign was simply glued on top of the old Sun Microsystems sign.

The nice architecture and greenery kept blowing my mind. Multiple times I thought to myself how nice every thing smells.

I took the bus to San Jose and made my way to the convention center — time to register at DubDub! After I got my badge and goodies I went to my AirBnB to check in. It was a lovely cabin, basically a pimped up garden shed that was larger than my flat in Vienna. And it was within walking distance to downtown San Jose. The perfect homebase for the coming days. I had dinner and some craft bear and fell into my bed. The watch said 27.486 steps and 20,62km.
