Attending dotSwift 2019 in Paris

My employer gives me a generous yearly allowance to work on my education. So far I didn’t take advantage of it, but this year will be different. First stop: Paris, France. I had the chance to come to Paris a day early and do some sightseeing.

The organizers tried to stress that this conference is about networking and since the talks would be recorded anyway there was no need to take notes or to have the laptop open. The talks from this year, but also from previous and future events are hosted here. I really enjoyed the broad spectrum of the talks, most notably those by Soroush Khanlou, Lea Marolt Sonnenschein and Janina Kutyn. Overall the conference had the quirky charme that I got to know and love from the Ruby community.

On the next day I had booked a workshop with Daniel Steinberg who gave us a whirlwind tour through functional programming in Swift. Very well organized in a nice venue and catered with decent food. My head was exploding after those two days.

If you are stranded in Paris with an iPhone that ran out of battery, I suggest you visit the Apple Store on Champs-Élysées which is beautifully renovated and integrated into the existing architecture. They have places to charge your phone and rest your feet.
